AFLA Awards Program
The professional association of world language teachers of Alaska, Alaskans for Language Acquisition (AFLA), may present the following three awards for professional service:
- The Wolf Hollerbach Post-Secondary Teacher of the Year Award
- The Terry Higley K-12 Outstanding Teacher Award
- The Friends of World Language Award
The Wolf Hollerbach Post-Secondary Teacher of the Year Award
An award to honor an outstanding teacher of a language other than English at the college or university level. The nominee and the nominator both must be members of AFLA. The award is named in honor of Wolf Hollerbach, long-time French professor and teacher extraordinaire at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The nominee should have taught at least five years.

The Terry Higley K-12 Outstanding Teacher Award
An award to honor an outstanding teacher of a language other than English at the elementary or secondary level. The nominee and the nominator must both be members of AFLA and the nominee should have at least five years' experience teaching the language. The award is named to honor Terry Higley (a former student of Wolf Hollerbach's) who was truly an outstanding French teacher at Bartlett High School in Anchorage from 1973 until her death in 1998.

The Friends of World Language Award
An award to honor a person, company, club, or other individual or group who has made a significant contribution to world language education in Alaska. The nominee does NOT have to be a member of AFLA.
